FAQS

WHAT IS COACHING?

Coaching is the process whereby, you, the client, bring your agenda/ goal/ dream to the table and I, as the coach facilitate your ability to realise your potential and realise your ambitions and dreams. It is a self-empowering process for you whereby I will ask questions to enable you to see the possibilities available to you to act upon. It is a confidential working relationship and you should expect to see progress from your current reality to where you want to be.

HOW DOES COACHING DIFFER TO COUNSELLING/ THERAPY/ MENTORING AND CONSULTANCY? ARE COACHES QUALIFIED LIKE THE OTHER SPECIALISATIONS

I believe it is very important to be trained and qualified as a coach, as I am wanting to give the best to all my clients – therefore it is important that I am the best I can be for them.

COACHING: Coaches support their clients, facilitating the client’s ability to work progressively towards a goal of their choosing. It is a self-empowering and inspiring process. Coaching deals very much in the present to the future; moving the client from where they are now and taking them to where they want to be.

MENTORING: Mentor offers advice from their own experience.

COUNSELLING: Talks through the client’s past issues and on-going stresses.

THERAPY: Focuses on past events that have caused stress or trauma.

CONSULTANCY: Consultants offer advice based on a field of their own specialisation.

WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

Well although everyone is different and will be striving for different things the basic process is the same. You, as the client identify what you would like to focus on either as a personal goal or within your business and I, as your coach help to get you there quicker than you would on your own, by using tried and tested techniques to help you realise your own strengths and possibilities to move you forward. Generally this will take place over 6 sessions for individual clients each covering a different manageable step until you get to where you want to be, always with the end result in mind. And for business clients it will take place during a workshop or series of workshops to build group skills and understanding. It is amazing how much you learn on the journey too - which can be as exciting as actually getting to where you want to be. You will often have small tasks to work on between sessions, to bring your development from sessions in to life practise too. In the initial session we will have a chat to identify what you ultimately want to focus on and then we will break this in to bitesize steps to work on each session. I will support and encourage you, helping you to devise options or strategies to get you to the goal as efficiently as possible. We (coach and client) will touch on your past successes and create confidence and empowerment within you to progress you forward to realise your ambitions.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Each case will be reviewed individually as packages are catered to individuals and business requirements. Some might require more sessions than others if they are working towards multiple or larger goals. Each client/ business will be given a package tailored to their specific needs.

IS COACHING CONFIDENTIAL?

Coaching is completely confidential, though as a coach I have a duty of care to my clients, which means should I ever feel that what I have heard means you, or anyone else is at serious risk I would be obliged to pass this information on to the relevant help services. However other than this you can trust that complete confidentiality will be maintained.

HOW IS MY PERSONAL DATA STORED?

During the sessions I will make notes, so I can make sure we are progressing forward and so I can keep note of what was most useful to the client during the sessions. This information will be kept safe and confidential under lock and key – for my reference only. I will type up from our sessions and save this information in my private computer – password protected in accordance with Data Protection legalities.

HOW DOES COACHING DIFFER FROM A CHAT WITH FRIENDS?

One to one it is a chat, but more than simply being a chat with a friend the only agenda in this conversation is the one set by you– we both work together to achieve this, all other opinions aside. I like to think of myself as a mirror simply there to reflect back to you your own strengths and help boost your confidence to move forward. In life most, if not all people (friends, family, colleagues) have their own opinions, judgements and agendas, and however well meaning they are, they are not always helpful in inspiring and drawing the best out of us. That is where I come in as a cheerleader dedicated only to your wishes and dreams helping to facilitate this. Within businesses, there is more of a workshop format, with delivery but still group participation and I lead this reflecting back on what you all need to glean from the experience.

WHAT IS A SESSION LIKE - WHAT KIND OF THINGS DO WE TALK ABOUT?

It is up to you, the client, to set the agenda, the point you want to work towards, it is my job as a coach to ensure we stick to it and progress where you want to go.

With businesses the director/ team leader sets the intention and I will create a programme that enables the workforce to expand in this area. Workshops include powerpoint presentations, games and interactive learning styles, whilst also getting the individual employees to create relatable goals for themselves to feel empowered during the process.

With sessions that are catered to individuals, you bring the intention and then we basically talk about your goal, what you have currently achieved, where you have had problems moving forward with this goal in the past, and come up with some ways for you to be practical and active in moving forward and realising your dreams. As a client you can talk about anything you like, knowing it is confidential – (see qu. 5 "Is coaching confidential?") but my job as a coach is to keep us on track with making your desired progress!

WHAT IS THE TIME SCALE? HOW LONG ARE THE SESSIONS?

Typically you as the individual client will have an initial set of 6 sessions to help you realise your goal, these generally last 75-90 minutes each. These can take place as frequently as you wish, though I would recommend no more frequently than 1 a week, so that you have time to embody the tasks and bring them to life. It is then entirely up to you if you want to continue with more sessions, should you have other goals to work towards. Though everyone is different - it's best we chat first to get the right set of sessions for you.

Timescale for businesses depends on the content they need delivered. The workshops can be weekly as a wellness set up for all, encompass individual sessions too, or as a day/ few days including some silent group goal coaching.

WHERE DO THE SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?

It is for us to decide together what works best for our working relationship. Typically sessions can take place over skype, over the phone, or face to face, in a neutral setting.

WOULD WE MEET ON A ONE TO ONE BASIS?

Yes the personal performance coaching is based on one to one coach/client meetings, which can be either in person, or over the phone or skype.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE ME TO MAKE THE CHANGES I WANT TO IN MY LIFE WITH YOUR HELP?

If you are committed to your goal and making the change you will notice your mind set will change after the very first session. It is a very inspiring and exciting process. It can take a few sessions to fully achieve your goal, depending on the goal in question I would suggest about 6 sessions, which can be as frequent as you want them to be, I would suggest a week in-between sessions so you can implement any practise between sessions.

WHAT IF I FEEL LOW AND WANT TO CALL YOU AT SOMEPOINT?

I am available to contact between sessions, and will endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible, or we can try and bring your next session forward if something has happened and you feel you need extra support, or just have a quick chat between, if that is helpful, to talk it through. I am here to support you, but part of the development is learning your own coping mechanisms too. But the main thing you need to know is I will always respond when I can, and you are continually supported by me as a coach between sessions, too. You are never alone!

ARE THERE ANY EXTRA THINGS I CAN DO BETWEEN SESSIONS?

There will be some activities or tasks to work on between sessions to help with your progression, it is vital to your progress that you honour this progression as much as the work we do in sessions as it all helps move you forward. Though it is entirely up to you how much you want to be pushed in between, I will never overload you. I always feel it is useful for the client to note down, a summary of points covered in the session afterwards, to have something to look back over between sessions and also to help to assimilate the knowledge gained from the session. This can take as much or little time as you want; it is nice at the end of the group of sessions to be able to physically look back over the noticeable progress made though!

WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BECOME A LIFE COACH?

I have always been passionate about encouraging others, right from when I was a school mentor. I love helping people and have always been giving friends support and advice, sending positive quotes etc, but it wasn’t until I had a life coach myself that I realised the power of coaching and was so drawn to want to specialise as a coach. What I love about coaching is it is such a positive focussed process, and it is so exciting when you can see the changes taking place! I get really “buzzy” thinking about the power of positive thought and action and it is massively rewarding bringing this to other people too!
